Description: This webinar is designed for attendees interested in developing interactive e-books with their own content but unsure how to get started. We will demonstrate tools we have been using to create interactive learning objects and mobile apps to increase student engagement and help students master difficult concepts-so-called "muddiest" points. We will also briefly share best practices, lessons learned and progress toward building a framework any educator can use to develop interactive content.

E-MATE Co-PI Kelly Parr has some 25 years of education and project management experience. As a Technology Learning Assistant at Brookdale, she worked with English Dept. faculty, staff, students, and administrators to successfully research, troubleshoot, and implement technology to support teaching and learning. Parr has an M.S. in Instructional Technology and appreciates the importance of pedagogy when infusing technology to enhance learning and understanding.



Mike Qaissaunee is a Professor and Chair of Engineering and Technology at Brookdale Community College. Recipient of three National Science Foundation grants (cybersecurity, interactive e-textbooks, and wireless communications), Qaissaunee has co-authored a 10th grade textbook and has been active promoting the adoption of new technologies in teaching and learning. Qaissaunee has won two Educator of the Year awards and was recently recognized for his contributions to cybersecurity.

Dr. Jeannette Shaffer serves as the Instructional Technologist for the Maricopa Center for Learning and Instruction at Maricopa County Community Colleges. She has 10 years of experience designing and teaching online courses for The Online Academy with George Mason University and North Tier Partnership. Jeannette holds a B.S. in Art Education, M.S. Computer Education, and Ph.D. in Education with a major in Instructional Technology and minor in Curriculum and Design.
