SETA approves workforce research findings; ICT Cluster Report just released

The Sacramento Employment and Training Agency (SETA) recently approved Valley Vision's findings report outlaying employment needs and training gaps within the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) cluster. The ICT report draws upon numerous interviews conducted with regional company leaders to identify and better illustrate the needs within the ICT industry, ranging from gaps within workforce development, to identifying career expansion areas. Funded by SETA and supported by the Center for Strategic Economic Research and the Sacramento Area Regional Technology Alliance (SARTA), the report is the first of several cluster-based workforce training research projects being conducted by Next Economy partners.

The ICT report findings are already being utilized by the community college statewide 'Doing What Matters' initiative. This initiative will help remodel community college curricula in an effort to better equip students with needed skills for the workforce. Valley Vision has aligned with the Sacramento region's newly appointed Deputy Sector Navigator, Steven Linthicum, whose intent is to ensure that the ICT report findings are reflected within Sierra College and region-wide ICT course curricula.

The completion and release of the ICT report is an exciting start to a broader effort designed to uncover new opportunities and establish meaningful workforce development support within the region's growing industries. Next up will be Life Sciences, followed by a focus on the Food and Agriculture industry. All reports will be done by the end of March.
