The April 2014 UC Curriculum
Integration (UCCI) Institutes provides
the unique opportunity to shape UC-aligned, engineering and ICT curriculum for
California.
The
deadline to apply is Friday, Feb 7th at 11:59 pm, and
both educators (high school- to college-level) and industry
workers and encouraged to collaborate on the design of model
STEM courses for the State.
TWO
INSTITUTES from APRIL 10-13 at the HYATT SFO in BURLINGAME
Designing
course frameworks that integrate the following areas:
* Engineering
& Architecture with Math (“c”)
or Science (“d”)
* Information & Communication
Technologies with Math (“c”) or English (“b”)
WHAT
TO KNOW
At
the Institutes, teams of 6-8 participants collaborate on the design of one
course that integrates academic subject content with demanding career technical
education (CTE). Course developed at the Institutes and "a-g"
approved by UC become part of the UCCI course list, which makes all UCCI courses
available for any school in California to teach.
BENEFITS
Individuals
who participate receive:
*
a stipend of $300 for their work at the Institute,
*
free lodging and meals for 4 days/3 nights,
*
2.5 Continuing Education Units from UCLA Extension (for free!), and
*
up to $250 of substitute costs covered (reimbursed to the district).
In
addition, teachers gain the experience and skills to serve as UCCI-recognized
"Teacher Leaders," and receive UC High School Articulation support in
guiding their colleagues through the collaborative course-design process to
integrate other academic disciplines and CTE industry sectors.
