Center of Excellence Study: Mobile Media Occupations in California

According to a recently published study by California Community College Centers of Excellence, approximately 75,000 workers are currently employed in a cluster of six occupations that are most impacted by the emergence of mobile media technologies.  This workforce is expected to increase by as many as 12,620 jobs over the next 12 months - for positions such as software engineers, computer support specialists, programmers, and/or application developers.

The Mobile Media Occupations environmental scan also looks at the availability of community college courses and programs in California that can prepare students and incumbent workers for the mobile media occupations studied.  The study found that current offerings statewide are limited.  Analysis of employer needs and college offerings indicates community colleges have an exciting opportunity to respond to employment demand by creating mobile media courses and programs.  Community colleges are well positioned to address this labor market need, building upon their existing offerings in information and communication technologies programs.

Regional data for Southern California, the Los Angeles/Orange County region and the San Francisco Bay Area are included in this environmental scan.
