Dear
Friends & Colleagues,
The California STEM Learning Network is pleased to invite you to the
third annual California STEM Summit: Transforming Ideas Into
Action, presented by Chevron.
We are putting together an outstanding program for this year's Summit
and are pleased to announce that Sugata Mitra has agreed to be a
keynote speaker. Dr. Mitra is Professor of Educational
Technology at the School of Education, Communication and Language
Sciences at Newcastle University, UK. His famed "Hole in
the Wall" experiment placed internet-connected PCs in urban and
rural areas of India and filmed children as they played and taught
themselves how to navigate the computer. As a result of this research,
Dr. Mitra found that through curiosity and shared peer interest,
children are able to teach themselves.
He will draw on his experiences and wisdom to help us think about how
we can transform California's STEM education system to ensure that
all students graduate with the necessary skills and knowledge to
succeed in education, work and their daily lives.
In addition, attendees at the California STEM Summit 2012 will:
- Learn
about critical issues related to advancing STEM education
- Generate
support for key STEM initiatives and programming
- Discuss
the new Common Core Standards and Next Generation Science
Standards and how they can advance STEM in and outside the
classroom
Register
early for this game-changing two-day summit and be sure to get your
space as seating is limited.
