BBC: New York Post and UPI Twitter accounts hacked

The Twitter accounts of the New York Post and United Press International (UPI) have been hacked with fake tweets on economic and military news.
In one post, the Pope was quoted on UPI's Twitter feed as saying that "World War III has begun".

Meanwhile, the New York Post's account said that hostilities had broken out between the United States and China.

It is the latest hack of a high-profile social media account, four days after US military command was compromised.

UPI, which is based in Washington, confirmed in a statement that both its Twitter account and news website had been hacked.

Smart Grid Industry Sector Profile Now Available

The San Francisco Bay Center of Excellence has released a new industry sector profile on Smart Grid that is now available at: www.coeccc.net/energy

The Centers of Excellence developed this Smart Grid industry profile to help colleges better understand what this emerging field is all about and how jobs will be impacted in the Utility, Energy and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) sectors over the next decade.

Because Energy and Utilities and ICT are priority industry sectors in California, community college leaders will be interested in learning more about how to align existing programs in Engineering, Energy and ICT with employers’ workforce needs as the Smart Grid transformation unfolds.

Faculty Forum on Smart Grid at CCSF on 9/30

The Bay Area Community College Consortium is hosting its next Energy Faculty Forum on Friday September 30th at City College of San Francisco. The topic will be "Smart Grid".
Presentations and discussions will address the issue of Smart Grid and how Community Colleges can respond to the need for preparing the workforce for jobs in this field. MPICT supports this effort and encourages ICT Faculty from our region to attend. The event is free but you have to register.

Smart Houses: ICT Markets and Technologies Development

The importance of Smart Houses proliferation is now tied with the Smart Grid deployments, and Smart Houses communications networks will eventually be a part of a large country-wide project, such as centralized and intelligent automation system, which integrates utilities and consumers.

The U.S. market for ICT in Smart Houses (with a base of private houses reaching more than 100 million) is huge; it also is supported by the government, which is deeply involved in the Smart Grid project.

• Pete Shoemaker is the Renewables Program Coordinator at the PG&E Pacific Energy Center in San Francisco. He handles a variety of courses for the PEC, including those on solar electric (PV) systems, solar water heating systems, and Smart Grid.
• Jim Caldwell is the Executive Director of Workforce Incubator; the Workforce Specialist for the Sacramento State Smart Grid Center; and has been working on a statewide Smart Grid Initiative for the past year.
