Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Breaks More Records, Hits $775M in Sales


"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has broken yet another record... the game has generated more than $775 million in sales in its first five days...

"With $775 million of sales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 in its first five days, Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for three consecutive years across all forms of entertainment," Robert Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, said in a statement.

"He noted that as a whole, sales for the series has topped $6 billion worldwide, making it one of the most valuable franchises ever...

"By the close of its first day, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 had already sold 6.5 million units for a total of $400 million in sales...

"Activision also noted that by the end of MW3's first day, gamers had already logged 7 million hours of play on the new title, a 19 percent increase from the 5.9 million hours played on Black Ops when it launched last year. It also said that on day one, 3.3 million unique gamers played Modern Warfare 3, while 2.6 million unique gamers played Black Ops on its first day."
