German cable operator Kabel Deutschland (KDG) has successfully achieved broadband download speeds of up to 1Gbps over a DOCSIS 3.0 cable TV network, according to TeleGeography. The tests were conducted in partnership with Cisco using a standard commercial Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) from Cisco. KDG claims to be the first cable operator to achieve these speeds using DOCSIS 3.0. KDG already offers consumers services at speeds of 100 Mbps. Last week, Dutch ISP CAI Harderwijk was the first cable operator to successfully offer symmetrical 100 Mbps service over DOCSIS 3.0.
