Economic Trends and Labor Demands Suggest Value in Career Technical Education, Says CompTIA President and CEO

Friends of CTE Blog Series Provides Platform for CTE Advocates

Silver Spring, MD, May 16, 2012 – Economic trends, labor demands and research are signaling that Career Technical Education (CTE) programs are a valued educational approach that prepares students to enter the workplace and succeed, said Todd Thibodeaux , CompTIA president and CEO, in a recent blog.

In a new Friends of CTE blog, Thibodeaux highlighted the significance of engaging students and giving them the opportunity to learn marketable skills and industry-recognized credentials toward employment. CompTIA is a non-profit trade association dedicated to advancing the global interests of professionals and companies.
“More states, school districts, government leaders and students themselves are demanding improved preparation in career readiness in the form of industry certifications and Career Technical Education (CTE) programs,” Thibodeaux said.
“In our particular quadrant of the professional world, the technical industry, there’s an increasing opinion within the academic world in the importance of technical training to prepare for a career beyond that academic degree.”

The Friends of CTE Blog is a monthly guest blog piece hosted by the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education Consortium (NASDCTEc). The blog provides advocates – from business and industry, the research community and organizations – an opportunity to articulate their support for CTE. Guest bloggers provide their perspective on and experience with CTE as it relates to policy, the economy and education. Read CompTIA’s blog at http://blog.careertech.org/?p=6220.
