Smartphones Increasingly Important

35% of American Adults Own a Smartphone
25% of Whom Use it As Primary Web Connection

"According to a new report by the Pew Internet Project, one third of American adults – 35% – now own smartphones. More interesting perhaps is the fact that 25% of these smartphone owners now use their 3G/4G wireless broadband service as their primary broadband connection, despite the growing shift toward lower caps and expensive per byte overages. Unsurprisingly, those who are younger (under 45) have higher incomes and more education tend to have the highest smartphone adoption rates. The full report (pdf) notes that 35% of smartphone owners surveyed are on Android, 24% use iPhones, 24% use a Blackberry, 6% use Palm and 4% use Windows. Pew surveyed 2,277 US adults between April and May of this year.
